Summer Super Foods to Serve at Your Next Picnic

If you are on a mission to give your diet a makeover, summer is the perfect time to start eating healthier!

During the summer season healthy fruits and vegetables are in-season and bountiful, said Norman Regional registered dietitian Keri Hale. Traditional summer foods like corn-on-the-cob and watermelon offer many health benefits in addition to being perfect for picnics.

“Most fruit and vegetables have a high-fluid or water content. They are all a great source of fiber as well as vitamins,” Hale said. “Also people should try to get five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. More matters! Whatever you are doing now, try to aim for more!”

Norman Regional Health System invites you to celebrate the grand opening of the new HealthPlex specialty hospital, located off Interstate 35 on Tecumseh Road. The grand opening will take place Saturday, August 29 and the facility will begin to see patients in September.

The HealthPlex facility through innovative design promotes a healing and safe environment for our patients. The grand opening will feature guided tours of the facility, family entertainment and Norman’s first rubber duck race! Visitors can explore the landscaped grounds, which include a walking trail surrounding a five-acre lake.

Stay Safe with Tips to Beat the Heat from Norman Regional’s ER

With temperatures in Oklahoma summers reaching 100 degrees, Norman Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department has been busy treating patients suffering from heat-related illnesses.

Emergency Department physician Dr. Robbie Frantz says this heat wave can be very dangerous if you do not take precautions while outdoors. “If you don’t pay attention to your body’s reaction to heat, a heat-related injury can happen quickly and lead to serious medical problems,” Frantz said.
